What is Zeolite

Zeolites are microporous, aluminosilicate minerals and are widely used in multiple cross-industry applications ranging from water purification to radioactive waste containment. Characterized by its high surface charge density and high cation exchange capacity, zeolites’ unique ability to absorb and bind a broad range of materials makes it a simple and inexpensive solution to many problems spanning a variety of industries and environmental issues.

What is Clinoptilolite Zeolite

THE PURE AND NATURALLY OCCURRING MINERAL CLINOPTILOLITE ZEOLITE HAS MANY USEFUL APPLICATIONS.

Due to its unique molecular composition zeolite has incredible absorbent and adsorbent qualities. As a result, people are constantly developing new applications for this versatile mineral and it is emerging as one of the most useful minerals excavated today. The first known uses of Zeolite can be traced back to B.C.E when Roman’s employed the mineral in their aqua ducts. Zeolite was not discovered in the USA until the 1950’s. In the 1970’s it was used in the treating of wastewater ammonia and radioactive material. As the mineral’s amazing filtration and absorption ability became more known, people started using it in pools in Europe and the USA. Since the 1980’s, Zeolite has been identified for use in many different applications and as such has become a very valuable commodity. People have only recently begun to realize the true potential and capabilities of zeolite. As a result, it has also been dubbed the mineral of the 21st century and new applications are continually being discovered around the world.

Uses for Natural Zeolite

Zeolite holds exceptional value for a broad spectrum of applications.

agriculture
Agriculture

As a natural mineral zeolite’s properties offer a broad range of applications throughout the agricultural industry. The properties of zeolite are ideal for use in odour and moisture control in municipal composting, animal feed supplements, zeoponics for greenhouse growing mediums and high-value outdoor zeolitic fertilizers.

Water Treatment

Zeolite can function as a cost effective medium for waste water treatment. The natural properties of zeolite can be used to remove ammonia, minimize runoff, and absorb odors.

As environmental regulations require increasingly effective methods of treating waste – zeolite can be used to protect and manage waste water in an economical manner.

Industry

The natural green properties of zeolite lend themselves to a number of Green Tech industrial applications. Zeolite is used throughout a number of industrial applications such as road salt replacement, radioactive waste containment, artificial turf, and many more.

agriculture
Aquaculture

The natural filtration properties of zeolite can be used within aquaculture industries such as fish farming, aquariums, and transport. Zeolite can act as a medium to help to absorb nitrates, nitrites, and phosphates to maintain a high quality of water.
